Apple of my Eye

Here in good ole Texas we are barely experiencing our version of Fall (if you can call 92 degrees Fall...) So, in the spirit of delayed seasons, I thought it would be fairly appropriate to share my quick trip to the Apple Capital of Texas: Medina.

I had researched a ton of pumpkin patches and discovered that Love Creek Orchards (which usually just offers apple picking and various products made from their apples) was only a little over an hour out of San Antonio. They turn their orchard into a pumpkin patch for the majority of October and it was absolutely adorable.

Complete with pumpkins (of course), a maze, ponies, plenty of photo ops, and the best honey crisp apples I have ever tasted.

These ponies were worth the drive alone. The first pony was so sassy! When he figured out that I wasn't going to offer him any food, he huffed at me and turned around for the entire time we were near him. The other pony was probably the most unique animal I have ever met. First of all his blue eyes were so stunning! Also, he was a HUGE fan of the homemade apple ice cream. We could tell due to him continuously stealing licks from his owner's ice cream bowl.

I picked up some organic apples, apple cider and apple jam from the Love Creek Orchards' Apple Store. It was only fitting that the best apples ever were called Adams Apples.

On the way back to San Antonio, we stopped by Bandera and picked up some apparently famous, and delicious, barbecue at Busbee's.

I love little staycations/day trips and especially appreciate that Texas is still hanging on to the Autumn weather for just a bit longer.

What are some of your favorite Fall festivities or traditions?
